Iconic Sydney LGBTQIA+ Venue Expands to the Inner West as Stonewall Launches Newtown Venue on King Street
Iconic Oxford St venue Stonewall is bringing drag, dancing, and divas to Newtown.

After almost three decades as one of Oxford Street’s favourite nightlife destinations, the team behind the iconic Stonewall Hotel is bringing the brand to the Inner West, with a brand new venue now open in Newtown.
First opening in 1997, Stonewall has spent the last 29 years building a reputation as one of Sydney’s best-known LGBTQIA+ venues. Celebrated for its welcoming atmosphere, drag performances and late-night dancefloors, the multi-level bar has been a cornerstone of the city’s queer nightlife scene.
And now, the legacy has expanded to the Inner West. The new Newtown is bringing Stonewall’s inclusive spirit to one of Sydney’s most diverse and community-focused neighbourhoods. Locals can expect the same energetic mix of entertainment the brand is known for DJs, drag, dancing and a lively social atmosphere – all delivered in a space designed to be open, friendly and accessible to everyone.
While the Oxford Street venue remains a multi-level nightclub experience, Stonewall Newtown offers a slightly different take on the brand. The Inner West location leans into the neighbourhood’s more relaxed, community-driven vibe, creating a space that’s just as welcoming for a casual drink with friends as it is for a late-night dance.
For Stonewall, the move marks an exciting new chapter – bringing a beloved Sydney nightlife institution into the heart of the Inner West.
