Playgrounds and Cafes – The Perfect City Living Combo

A little outdoor play time is good for everyone, and in Surry Hills the combination of fabulous playgrounds and surrounding cafes is the perfect combo. While the kids learn to swing, balance and climb, you can sit back and enjoy a cuppa along with some well earnt outdoor time.

Disguised the first Saturday of each month by the Surry Hills Markets, Shannon Reserve is

perfect for little ones and toddlers. It has a partially enclosed area as well as swings, a slide and climbing equipment.


Being conveniently located on Crown Street, grabbing a coffee and snack on your way to the park is a breeze. You may even have time to check out the public library which is also nearby.





Ward Park, conveniently located next to a light rail stop, has two playgrounds and is not only great for the little ones with swings and climbing equipment, but also the big ones with a skate bowl and outdoor Ping-Pong tables.


Everyone loves a pastry or a sausage roll and you’ll be happy to know that Burke Street Bakery is directly across the road from this playground pleaser.





By far the biggest and most extensive in Surry Hills, is the Prince Alfred Park Playground, on the Corner of Cleveland and Chalmers streets.


This popular playground destination is home to seesaws, swings, a walking track and plenty of grass to run about on or have a picnic.


For the bigger kids there are basketball and tennis courts, as well as the all-weather temperature regulated swimming pool right next door.


With BBQ facilities and public toilets, it’s great if you are planning a day out as it’s truly an oasis in the city.
