Tropfest's Final Call for Filmmakers

Tropfest confirms final entry dates ahead of its highly anticipated 2026 return!

After more than three decades as the world’s largest short film festival, Tropfest, is making its long-awaited comeback. Tropfest has helped launch the careers of countless Aussie storytellers and become a cultural touchstone where bold ideas meet big audiences.

This year’s filmmakers have been racing the clock to bring their ideas to life around the 2026 Tropfest Signature Item, “Hourglass.” Entries have poured in from across Australia and around the Globe, with creators taking bold, unexpected approaches to the theme. With so many filmmakers pushing right up to the wire, Tropfest have announced a short, one-time submission extension.

The Final Push

As we all know, time flies - especially when you’re having fun. And we’re sure Tropfest filmmakers have been having a blast bringing their short film masterpieces to life! Because of overwhelming demand, Tropfest is offering a one-time, short extension to the submission deadline.

While submitting by the original deadline is still encouraged (it helps preselectors start judging sooner), this final window gives anyone needing a little extra time the chance to get their film across the line.

“This extension is designed for filmmakers in the final stages of completion… and for those who believe they can pull something off in the next week or so.”
