Inner West Sydney free events New Years Eve

Inner West Free and Non-Ticketed View Points

For those wanting a more affordable night out, the Inner West Council has recommended some fantastic free and non-ticketed viewing points for people who want to enjoy the fireworks display and celebrate the new year. Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said free access to the harbour is a democratic right for all Sydney-siders. 

 

“We welcome all locals and visitors to enjoy New Year’s Eve at our beautiful harbourside parks and don’t believe that anyone should have to pay to enjoy the best harbourside views in the world,” Byrne said. 


The best free and non-ticketed viewing areas in the Inner West include;

  • Yurulbin Park, Birchgrove

  • Birchgrove Park, Birchgrove

  • Elkington Park, Balmain

  • Mort Bay Park Balmain

  • Simmons Point, East Balmain

  • Lookes Avenue Reserve, East Balmain

  • Thornton Park, East Balmain

  • Illoura Reserve, East Balmain


The new Rozelle Parklands is under the control of Transport for NSW, they have made access to the Parklands free but ticketed, and the Balmain Peninsula will be closed to non-resident, private vehicles from 3.00pm on New Year’s Eve, however buses and ferries will run throughout the day and evening. 


Firework Displays across the Northern Beaches

This NYE is going off with a bang on the Northern Beaches with a total of 5 firework displays planned! The traditional locations of Manly, Dee Why and Frenchs Forest are scheduled for 9pm, and Bayview with displays scheduled for both 9pm and midnight.


Families are encouraged to bring their own picnic or purchase takeaway from one of the many local restaurants and enjoy the fireworks spectacular! For the safety of the public, there will be road closures in place around Dee Why and Manly, please keep this in mind when planning your travel. For more details, click here.

For a more wallet-friendly option, smack bang in the centre of the CBD - Esteban is having a big party! The festivities include Laneway Happy Hour from 5pm to 6pm featuring $12 cocktails and $9 tacos. There will also be live mariachi music in the laneway and restaurant dining from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. You can enjoy casual drinks and food in the laneway or find a comfortable spot in the restaurant. It's a fantastic way to kick off your New Year's Eve and get fuelled before heading to a better viewpoint to take in the iconic Sydney fireworks.



Zephyr Sky Bar
