SF3 2026
The world’s biggest smartphone film festival, SF3, returns for its 12th season - and it's looking bigger and better than ever!
You don’t need an expensive camera kit to make a great film. Sometimes, all it takes is the smartphone already sitting in your pocket.

That idea is at the heart of SF3, which returns for its 12th season on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November 2026.
Billed as the world’s biggest smartphone film festival, SF3 celebrates filmmaking in one of its most accessible forms, showcasing stories created entirely on phones by filmmakers of all ages. This year’s program will take over two very different Sydney landmarks - the Sydney Opera House and White Bay Power Station - for a weekend dedicated to creativity on the small screen, shown on a much bigger one.
The festival’s line-up spans filmmakers of different ages, backgrounds and levels of experience, proving that compelling storytelling doesn’t necessarily depend on a huge budget or a truckload of equipment. Audiences can expect a diverse collection of films designed to surprise, inspire and demonstrate just how far smartphone filmmaking has come.

And with the festival opening on Halloween, SF3 is leaning into the occasion. Saturday 31 October will include a special feature film screening (Three Chapters) promising something considerably darker - and plenty of scares.
Whether you’re an aspiring filmmaker, a devoted movie buff or simply curious to see what can be created with the same technology most of us carry around every day, SF3 offers a fresh look at where filmmaking is heading.
