Building Confident Communicators

Reddam Early Learning Lindfield partners with speech experts to empower young confident communicators.
Tucked into the leafy surrounds of Sydney’s North Shore, Reddam Early Learning
School Lindfield is quietly redefining what early childhood education can look like.
Known for its child-centred approach and strong academic foundations, the school
places a particular emphasis on one of life’s most essential skills: communication.
For young children, learning to communicate effectively is about far more than
words. It underpins confidence, social connection, and a child’s ability to engage
meaningfully with the world around them. As Principal Lara Wilson explains, “Strong
communication skills are foundational for children as they grow and learn. Effective
communication skills support children to express their needs and build friendships
with peers.”

This philosophy comes to life through the school’s close partnership with North
Shore Speech Therapy. Unlike many early learning environments, Reddam ELS
Lindfield integrates speech therapy directly into the school day, with therapists
working onsite to provide targeted support in a familiar, supportive setting. This
approach ensures children’s communication development is nurtured consistently,
both in the classroom and through specialised intervention when needed.
This commitment to developing confident communicators has inspired an upcoming
community event designed to support families as well as students.
On Tuesday 12 May, the school will host a complimentary, child-free workshop titled
How to Create Confident Communicators, led by Lauren Reinhardt, founder of North
Shore Speech Therapy. Held at the Lindfield campus on Treatts Road, the session
will provide practical, expert guidance for parents navigating their child’s
communication development.
The workshop will explore the communication skills children need for success in
school, how these skills are fostered within early learning environments, and the vital
role parents play at home. Parents will also gain clarity around what is
developmentally typical in the early years, when to take a “watch and wait” approach,
and when additional support may be helpful. It will also address considerations for
children growing up in multilingual households and outline clear steps for families
who may have concerns about their child’s speech or language development.

Importantly, the session is designed to be accessible and empowering. “The
upcoming workshop will provide parents with practical strategies and insights to
support their child’s speech and language development,” Wilson notes. “It aims to
empower families with simple, everyday techniques that can make a meaningful
difference in their child’s communication journey.” The focus is on practical strategies
that fit naturally into daily routines, helping parents feel confident rather than
overwhelmed.
Beyond the classroom, this event reflects Reddam ELS Lindfield’s broader
commitment to community. By opening its doors to both current families and the wider neighbourhood, the school continues to foster meaningful connections and provide valuable resources to support children’s development at every stage.“The ability to communicate with those around us shapes how we experience the world,” Wilson adds. “Supporting children to communicate with confidence opens the door to endless opportunities.”
For families who would like further guidance beyond the workshop, North Shore Speech Therapy continues to support children through individualised assessment, therapy, and close collaboration with schools across the North Shore.
For families seeking both insight and inspiration, this workshop offers a valuable
opportunity to learn from experts, connect with others, and take practical steps
toward raising confident, capable communicators.
